ABOUT DR. STELTON
Dr. Chris Stelton is a board-certified ophthalmologist in Sarasota, Florida who takes a personal interest in each of his patients and uses advanced technology to help ensure the best outcomes. He is the founder of SK RETINA, an ophthalmology practice focusing on diseases of the retina and vitreous.
Dr. Stelton’s patient-centered practice at SK Retina offers innovative procedures and therapies to diagnose and treat a range of eye conditions, including macular degeneration, macular holes, macular pucker, retinal tears and detachments, vein occlusions, posterior vitreous detachment and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Stelton was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. His father served in the United States Air Force for thirty years, and as a result, Dr. Stelton grew up in many places including Texas, Florida, Louisiana, the Philippines, and Germany.
Dr. Stelton completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Stelton completed both an ophthalmology residency and a prestigious, two-year subspecialty fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Emory Eye Center at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, one of the preeminent ophthalmology programs in the country. During his time at the Emory Eye Center, Dr. Stelton gained significant clinical experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of retinal and vitreous diseases. He is particularly interested in the study and treatment of diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. He is a consultant for Google.
During his time in Atlanta, Dr. Stelton also worked at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital providing retina care. The experience allowed Dr. Stelton to serve our nation’s veterans, many of whom experience eye conditions associated with aging, including complications from diabetes and high blood pressure, macular degeneration, and retinal detachments.
Dr. Stelton is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has admitting privileges at Sarasota Memorial Hospital although many treatment options are available “in-office” due to the state-of-the-art technology available at SK Retina.
Dr. Stelton met his wife Christina in Atlanta, where she completed a fellowship in pathology. Christina was born and raised in Sarasota, where her father was an internal medicine physician for over 20 years. The Steltons are happy to be back in Christina’s hometown.
The Steltons are proud parents to a sweet, independent toddler who keeps them on their toes. They are parishioners at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sarasota. Dr. Stelton is an Eagle Scout, and in his free time, he still enjoys camping and fishing.
